London-born Australian pianist Piers Lane has a flourishing international career – he is a five-time soloist at the BBC Proms, and performs regularly with many of the world’s preeminent orchestras. Lane is celebrated for his piano recitals, described by critics as ‘simply spellbinding’, and appears regularly at music festivals including Prague Spring, Bard, and the Chopin Festival in Warsaw, to name but a few.
As a collaborative artist, he performs frequently with violinist Tasmin Little, with an Australian tour forthcoming later in 2018. Alongside his performing career, Piers Lane was Artistic Director of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music from 2007 to 2017 and is the Artistic Director of the Sydney International Piano Competition.
Medici Concerts International Piano Series was established in 1993 by Director Ann Thompson, with the goal of reviving the art of the solo piano recital. Since then, the Series has had a huge impact on the cultural life of Brisbane, attracting some of world’s great pianists to perform such as Nelson Freire, Stephen Kovacevich, Ivan Moravec, Stephen Hough, Pascal Rogé and Barry Douglas.
