Hannah Wrigley shares insights from her prospecting trip for Ceramics in China

posted on 21/07/16

MRT’s Hannah Wrigley travelled to China in March to prospect new elements for our tour Ceramics in China which features collections, kiln sites & trade routes in China & Taiwan. The tour takes place 19–31 May 2017 and is led by cultural historian and ceramics expert Lars Tharp. Hannah was also researching our Arts in China tour which is scheduled for Autumn 2017, please contact us below to register your interest.

‘My visit to Jingdezhen was timely as it coincided with the opening of two new places that we have now included on the tour. Our hotel (opened for business days after my visit) occupies a renovated industrial building on the former ceramic production site of Tao Xi Chuan. The whole area has been sensitively restored by the government and includes a bottle kiln and artist studios, including that of potters Felicity Aylieff and Takeshi Yasuda who host us on tour. The Jingdezhen Ceramics Museum, opened in October 2015, is a vast, modern building with an excellent collection across three floors. Another new addition to the itinerary in 2017 is Mt Huangshan or ‘Yellow Mountain’, the craggy, pine clad mountain frequently depicted in Chinese art.'
