Denmark
State-of-the-art museums, often in striking locations, the painters of Denmark’s so-called Golden Age, and an apparently effortless modern design aesthetic are the hallmarks of our Danish Art & Design tour. The itinerary covers the provincial towns of Odense and Aarhus as well as Copenhagen, taking in the countryside and coastlines that inspired early nineteenth-century painters such as Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg. Their works feature heavily but not exclusively – Old Masters and international modern artists are also represented in galleries of such élan they would merit visits in their own right.
Striking east from Copenhagen to Elsinore (of Hamlet fame), the tradition of garden design is the theme of the Danish Castles & Gardens itinerary on which participants explore the royal houses of North Sealand and the ‘Danish Riviera’. The tour offers not just special access to some of Denmark’s greatest palaces but the unique opportunity to meet some of the head gardeners responsible for their beautiful grounds
