Cultural tours in Malta
Our small-group tours of Malta offer a rich and insightful indulgence of culture. From the UNESCO-protected tombs of Hal Saflieni to the Baroque co-cathedral of Valletta and on to a private visit of a 16th-century palace, hosted by the Marquis de Piro.
The perspectives are long, the history is thrilling, and the cultural scene on this fascinating island is still very much alive. Not least because this year we are hosting an exclusive music festival in its most evocative venues.
Three leading Baroque ensembles - the English Concert, Solomon’s Knot and the Gabrieli Consort - will perform works by Handel in two cathedrals, a presidential residence and the Teatru Manoel. Combine this with our Essential Malta tour and the result will be a mouthwatering mix of bafflingly-underrated monuments and glorious 18th-century music. At Hagar Qim we’ll explore a temple that predates the Great Pyramid at Giza by as much as 1,000 years. Meanwhile at Mdina the hilltop citadel protects an entire city in miniature, complete with medieval and Renaissance palaces. With an expert lecturer to bring the past to life and BBC broadcaster Richard Wigmore providing interpretation and analysis of Handel’s music, the revelations will come thick and fast.

Our bases in Malta
A 5-star hotel in Valletta, recently refurbished and furnished with style and character, the best in Valletta and just outside the city gates.
An award-winning and family-run boutique hotel, in a historic palace. It is located at the start of the main pedestrianised street through Valletta but maintains a hushed and tranquil interior.
Housed in a 17th-century palace, Palais Le Brun is an elegant, smaller hotel, located on a quiet street at the far north-eastern end of Valletta.
A sister hotel to Palais Le Brun, the Gomerino is also housed in a Baroque palace, but slightly closer to the central square – wonderfully still away from the main footfall.
