Timothy Ridout selected as BBC New Generation Artist 2019

posted on 07/11/19

We are delighted to announce that violist Timothy Ridout has been selected as one of seven musicians to join the prestigious BBC New Generation Artists scheme from 2019–21. Founded in 1999, the scheme aims to nurture and promote the world’s best musicians at the start of their international careers.

One of the most sought-after violists of his generation, Timothy studied at the Royal Academy of Music and graduated with the Queen’s Commendation for Excellence. He is the only British Violist to have won first prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition in 2016. He was also selected by Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) in 2016, and went on to win the Thierry Scherz Award at the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad in 2019.

Timothy will perform at our Rising Stars Chamber Music Short Break next year (24–26 January). Taking place at the The Castle Hotel in Taunton, the event provides a unique opportunity to hear exceptionally talented musicians in the early stages of their careers. Alongside a broad instrumental line-up, Rising Stars also features pre-concert talks by writer, broadcaster and composer Stephen Johnson.

We hope you can join us to enjoy a weekend of chamber music performed by outstanding musicians of international repute.
