Art, architecture, archaeology, history and music are all on the menu, and on each carefully-paced itinerary we offer a mix of guided tours, lively lectures, group dinners and free time. We have achieved fantastic value for money by focusing on the core ingredients: using sensible hotels (3- or 4-star), removing unnecessary extras, increasing the size of the groups, and allowing time for independent exploration (more than is usual on this sort of trip). All trips include accommodation with daily breakfast, at least two group dinners (with two glasses of wine or beer and tips for the restaurant staff), admissions (as mentioned in the trip descriptions), travel by private coach, audio devices and local taxes. Flights and trains to and from the destinations are not included, leaving clients the option to choose the most convenient and cost-effective way for them to meet us.
One important ingredient remains unchanged: the inclusion of a first-rate speaker. The Cultural Travel Company share Martin Randall Travel’s unrivalled pool of speakers. Always highly qualified, often distinguished, our speakers provide commentary and insight which is authoritative and thought-provoking but presented in a way which is accessible and engaging. They are also congenial travelling companions.
In addition to the speaker, a trip assistant will accompany every trip – usually someone who is based locally. One of their roles is to ensure that people travelling on their own do not feel left out when they are not with the group. Starting from September 2017, we will have 17 different itineraries in 8 European countries, including the UK. Some departures have been timed so that they can be combined with other trips in the same destination – Florence with Venice, Madrid with Castile & León. Many are over a weekend.
Prices range from £820 (Archaeology in Pompeii, 4 days) to £1,825 (Sicily: Conquests & Cultures, 9 days), per person sharing.
For the first season, the year from September 2017, we are guaranteeing every departure. That means we will not cancel a trip because of low booking numbers.
